Protein Pancakes, Smoothie, Granola recipes, tea & B&BW product reviews

29 Jan

Hi! So I finished the Detroit Auto Show yesterday, and now I’m back to blogging life, here’s an update of the last week and a half via instagrams. Bath and Body Works Aromatherapy eucalyptus mint, lavender vanilla, C.O. Bigelow mentha review

I’ve come to the conclusion that these are the best lotion products at Bath & Body Works.

  • B&BW aromatherapy sleep – lavender vanilla body lotion (this scent is soothing and calming, perfect for relaxing at night with a cup of tea)
  • C.O. Bigelow Mentha body vitamin body lotion (this stuff is awesome, it has that cooling tingling feeling for awhile after you apply it, and the scent is just a huge pick-me-up)
  • B&BW aromatherapy stress relief – eucalyptus spearmint smoothing body scrub (I’ve loved this scent for quite awhile now, it’s that refreshing aromatherapy scent that really does help relax and clear your mind)

strawberry muesli spinach smoothie

I tried to eat mostly healthy while at work and not spend a ton of money on food court foods (besides that delicious hot pretzel and cheese)
One of my 6am smoothies, and a ton of snow on the ground, a strawberry muesli spinach smoothie.
I dont measure much but this one contains:

  • frozen strawberries
  • almond milk
  • two handfuls of spinach
  • greek yogurt
  • flaxseed & wheat germ
  • muesli
  • various frozen cherries and mangos

Tazo Refresh Tea review

The booth next to us had hot water and a spread of different teas, I discovered and fell in love with this Tazo Refresh Herbal Infusion tea.
As you can see it’s a bracing blend of mint with a pinch of tarragon, it’s seriously like sipping on the most refreshing gum, or something. You literally just inhale the soothing, cooling flavor and scent. It’s hard to describe, you just need to try it. I actually prefer it when it cools down, even more refreshing.

Edible Arrangements review

Brad surprised me with an Edible Arrangements delivery, these are on the pricey side, but they really are a quality product. The strawberries are so fresh and the chocolate is thick and delicious. This also contained chocolate covered apples and a mix of white chocolate covered bananas. These lasted all but 24 hours.

homemade granola recipe

I made homemade granola

  • 6 cups old fashioned oats
  • 1c sliced almonds
  • 1c wheat germ
  • 1/2c flaxseed
  • 1/2c brown sugar
  • 1/2c sunflower seeds (or any nut variety)
  • 1/2c brown sugar
  • 1tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2c shredded coconut flakes
  • 1/2c raisins

(all above ingredients go in a large bowl)

  • heat 1/2c canola oil and 2/3c honey or agave nectar on stove until it becomes liquid, add 1Tbsp of vanilla extract
  • pour mixture over dry ingredients. Spread on a large baking sheet, cook for 10-15 minutes at 325, mix around they cook another 5-8 mins.

It turned out really good, but made WAY more than I expected. This won’t go bad too quickly, so that’s not a bad thing. I would have definitely added some dried fruit if I’d had any on hand. If you have a really good crunchy granola recipe, do share!

blueberry oatmeal protein pancakes recipe

  • 1 banana
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 egg white
  • 1/4 c milk
  • 1 c oats
  • 2 scoops of protein powder (I only have chocolate flavored, but vanilla would be best)
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tbs wheat germ
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tbs canola oil (for the pan)
  • 1/2 c frozen or fresh blueberries

mash banana, vanilla, and egg white in a bowl.
stir in oats, protein powder, baking powder, wheat germ, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Then I heated the oil, poured approx. 1/4c of mixture and flattened out to form pancakes.
Add frozen/fresh blueberries onto each, let cook for a bit then flip (mine cooked way faster than I expected, to be ready)

These were super filling!

MAC Please Me Lipstick Swatch & FOTD with Naked Palette

18 Jan MAC matte Please Me Lipstick

Today is day 1 of 10 of working the North American International Auto Show, I’m drinking coffee out of my monogram cup which makes my brain and mouth move 200 mph and wasted some time messing with makeup this morning, resulting in a FOTD post:

Naked Palette FOTD

Lips: MAC ‘Please me,” a really pretty matte light pink.
Foundation:  I had to go spray tanning for my bridal show this weekend and I still have a bit of color, so I’m trying to use up some old foundations, I mixed a dark (Loreal true match super-blendable makeup in warm) and light (Maybelline Fit Me in 110)
Eyes: Naked Palette (sidecar, toasted, hustle, creep & naked) then depened the color with Lorac Single Eyeshadow in black.
Eyeliner: Loreal Carbon Black Lineur Intense Felt Tip Liquid Eyeliner & Essence Long Lasting Eye Pencil in Black Fever for waterline.
Mascara: Maybelline Falsies
Contour: e.l.f. Contouring Blush & Bronzer Palette
Blush: e.l.f. blush in “Blushing Rose”
Brushes: Sigma eye brushes, Tarte Foundation Brush, & Real Techniques expert face brush (perfect for contouring)
Earrings: The Limited, I believe

Here is the lipstick with no flash, I really like the color of this lipstick but it is very drying. I feel like I have to be really cautious when I wear it, because it’ll make all those little cracks throughout my lips after a while and ends up looking terrible. I’d love to find a dupe for the MAC ‘Please Me’ to compare.

Why in the world is the “new post” box so small? I can see like a quarter of each picture.
Anyway, if you know of a lip color similar to MAC’s Please Me, let me know!

18 Jan Revlon Lipstick Swatches

I figured I’d swatch a few Revlon lipsticks today, straight and to the point:

excuse my quick sloppy application.

and most importantly, my favorite lipstick currently..

I also swatched E.L.F. studio blush in Blushing Rose, this blush is supposed to be a dupe for NARS Orgasm, it’s a beautiful, light color. It has gold specks throughout, and is just a very wearable color, which can be build-able as well. Oh, and it’s $3 here.

In other news, I’m in the beginning stages of printing out a ton of my Instagram photos as polaroids.

Instagram Photos turned into Polaroids

First, I made a zip file of every one of my Instagram photos onto my computer in two clicks. Follow this link to do the same, it definitely comes in handy to back them up.

Next I used the template in Picasa (which if you don’t have already, you can download for free), printed, cut out with an xacto knife, and voila! You can make them different sizes, they are so cute.

Luckily I was able to capture this many pictures, the changes are so quick that we don’t get a chance to see most of the gowns. Also, I figured I’d share my neat hair and a few of the photos from our last Bridal Show back in October…

Nature Box Review – January 2013

12 Jan Nature Box January 2013

Today I received my first Nature Box in the mail and I wanted to give those of you who are unfamiliar with it a look.

January 2013 Nature Box

January 2013 Nature Box

Nature Box is a monthly box that comes filled with:

  • 5 full-sized packages
  • Healthy snacks that taste great
  • Discover new snacks monthly!
  • Satisfaction guaranteed, cancel anytime

Cost? $19.95, which does seem quite pricey, but once I received the package I understand why It is running around $20. You do get a good amount of product, and they are high quality products. I mean flaxseed isn’t cheap, sometimes the boxes come with ingredients like chia seeds, which are friggen expensive. I’m not sure that I’ll personally be able to shell out twenty bucks a month for healthy snacks, but I may try for a few.

The positive, it is really cool to try out these different health snacks that you probably pass at Whole Foods Market but don’t want to shell out the money to try them. The majority are vegan, only one of the packages wasn’t (because of honey)

They Promise

  • No High Fructose Corn Syrup
  • No Partially Hydrogenated Oils
  • No Trans Fat
  • No Artificial Sweeteners
  • No Artificial Flavors
  • No Artificial Colors

So lets see what came in the January 2013 Nature Box:

Pistachio Power Clusters
Ingredients: Oven Baked Nuts (Almonds, Cashews , Pistachios) Cane Sugar, Rice Syrup, Sea Salt

Wild Blueberry Flax Granola
Ingredients: Whole Rolled Oats, Milled Cane Sugar, Vegetable Oil, Rice Flour, Cornstarch, Flax Seed, Honey, Freeze Dried Blueberries, Salt, Natural Flavor, Barley Malt Syrup

Masa Crisps

Dried Pears
Ingredients: Pears

Nature Box - Dried PearsNature Box - Dried Pears

Lemon Pucker Pistachios
Ingredients: Pistachios, Sea Salt, Lemon Juice from Concentrate, Citric Acid
Nature Box - Lemon Pucker PistachiosNature Box - Lemon Pucker Pistachios

They come in cute package and box that is 100% recyclable. And the majority of these snacks were pretty delicious and I can feel good about what I’m munching on. The Pistachio Power Clusters had a lot of flavor and were really delicious. I can’t wait to try the Wild Blueberry Flax Granola, but I’m restraining myself from munching on it until morning. I personally am not a fan of pears, but they were decent (I’m bias) The Lemon Pucker Pistachios were a much more sour lemon-y version of an original pistacho (does that even make sense) And the Masa Crisps would be good dipped into some hummus or should I say it, queso dip.

For every box they feed a child in need through Feeding America, so between this and my Tom’s shoes I’m like a real life Mother Theresa.

If you have a dietary restraint, they offer a personalized Nature Box that best suites your needs, say you’re allergic to nuts or are strictly vegan, they can cater to those needs. You can actually go into your account and choose each bag you’d like to receive in your next order, or just leave them all as a surprise. Here are just a few of the options I can choose for my next box:

Avon Solutions Reviews: Nurtura Replenishing Cream & Banishing Cream Skin Discoloration Improver

8 Jan

FIrst off: I am not an Avon Representative or affiliated with Avon in any way, these opinions are my own.

Avon Nurtura Replenishing Cream
Created for dry skin, the replenishing cream is the answer to skin’s SOS. 1.7 fl. oz.
Price: $8.50

Avon Nurtura Replenishing Cream Review

This product is creamy and rich, the bottle claims, “This rich cream is formulated to replenish undernourished skin while you sleep so you’ll wake to skin that feels softer, smoother, silkier.”

I find myself using this cream only at night, it is extremely thick and has an awkward scent to it. But It absolutely lives up to the fact that it nourishes dry skin. As I don’t use this moisturizer every morning and evening, as directed, I slap it on when I feel like I need an extra pick me up.

Recommend: If you have dry skin, and can get past the not-so-amazing scent, this product would be great for you. Many people have lived by this product for 25+ years. It is extremely moisturizing and keeps for hours.

Avon Banishing Cream Skin Discoloration Improver
Featuring Avon’s own skin brightener as well as a botanical brightening blend and Vitamin E. It is a nourishing nighttime cream that gradually evens skin tone and helps to reduce the appearance of unwanted dark spots and discolorations. 2.5 fl. oz.
Price: $8.50

Avon Banishing Cream Skin Discoloration Improver Review

The bottle claims: “This nourishing cream helps even skin tone by gradually brightening skin to reduce the appearance of unwanted dark spots and discolorations. Moisturizers help keep skin soft and smooth.”

I have a slew of facial moisturizers (I just can’t pass up a deal) and I’ve had this one for quite a while. I recently started using it and find it to be a good moisturizer. I prefer it over the Nurtura Replenishing Cream for daily use, it’s lighter and doesn’t have much of a smell (which I like). I’ve only been using it a short amount of time but I can tell that it improves skin discoloration. I have  pretty normal skin with various red spots, that I’ve noticed to be slowly fading. This lotion can also be used various places on your body where you may have skin discoloration.

Recommend: Yes, I would recommend this product, especially for the price, you get a good amount of product that goes a long way, it’s a nice everyday face lotion.

Avon offers a lot of good products/moisturizers, there are just so many to choose from.

Have you tried and/or prefer any Avon moisturizers?
