FOTD with coastal scents, tarte & beautyblender (+ reviews)

19 Mar

I received my mini Sephora order the other day and had to share two of the products..

Sephora haul

The beautyblender sponge ($25 for 2pack)beautyblender review + FOTD

Here is the beautyblender right out of the package (the indent went away) Looks like a normal, basic sponge, right? Why would anyone pay $20 for a sponge? well, I understand why now.

You can use it dry or wet, but its super easy to wet it, run it under water for a second and squeeze it, it’s like magic. It kind of inflates (but isn’t even noticeably wet) You place your liquid foundation spotted around on your face, then just dab/pounce the large end of the beauty blender all around your face. When you wet it, it doesn’t soak up and waste much of your foundation, as most sponges would do.

It applies foundation flawlessly, I understand what the craze with this product is about now.  Additionally, you use the pointy end to bounce in concealer. It shapes perfectly around your eyes/nose/t-zone area. Great product, and I would totally recommend it. I was also skeptical about paying $20 for a sponge, but this is a staple in my makeup, and has amazingly put my tarte airbrush finish foundation brush to the side for awhile.

The other stand-out product I received was the:

Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Brow Mousse ($28)

Amazonian clay waterproof brow mousse -

I have sparse brows, that just won’t grow, so I’ve tried many products to help fill and shape them. So many eyebrow pencils/fillers are just the wrong color, don’t last, or just don’t look natural, but I think I’ve found a great thing in this product.

I order Taupe (a natural blonde color) and it blends nicely, I enjoy the mousse formula, it lasts and helps shape my brows. The brush is really handy because it both combs and has the brush end.

In the photos below I’ve used both the beauty blender & Tarte emphasEYESbeautyblender review & purple eye FOTDAdditional Products:

Sidenote: I don’t do any retouching to these pictures, considering I’m trying to showcase the makeup and how the product works and looks, so there will be imperfections and whatnot.

Protein Pancakes, Smoothie, Granola recipes, tea & B&BW product reviews

29 Jan

Hi! So I finished the Detroit Auto Show yesterday, and now I’m back to blogging life, here’s an update of the last week and a half via instagrams. Bath and Body Works Aromatherapy eucalyptus mint, lavender vanilla, C.O. Bigelow mentha review

I’ve come to the conclusion that these are the best lotion products at Bath & Body Works.

  • B&BW aromatherapy sleep – lavender vanilla body lotion (this scent is soothing and calming, perfect for relaxing at night with a cup of tea)
  • C.O. Bigelow Mentha body vitamin body lotion (this stuff is awesome, it has that cooling tingling feeling for awhile after you apply it, and the scent is just a huge pick-me-up)
  • B&BW aromatherapy stress relief – eucalyptus spearmint smoothing body scrub (I’ve loved this scent for quite awhile now, it’s that refreshing aromatherapy scent that really does help relax and clear your mind)

strawberry muesli spinach smoothie

I tried to eat mostly healthy while at work and not spend a ton of money on food court foods (besides that delicious hot pretzel and cheese)
One of my 6am smoothies, and a ton of snow on the ground, a strawberry muesli spinach smoothie.
I dont measure much but this one contains:

  • frozen strawberries
  • almond milk
  • two handfuls of spinach
  • greek yogurt
  • flaxseed & wheat germ
  • muesli
  • various frozen cherries and mangos

Tazo Refresh Tea review

The booth next to us had hot water and a spread of different teas, I discovered and fell in love with this Tazo Refresh Herbal Infusion tea.
As you can see it’s a bracing blend of mint with a pinch of tarragon, it’s seriously like sipping on the most refreshing gum, or something. You literally just inhale the soothing, cooling flavor and scent. It’s hard to describe, you just need to try it. I actually prefer it when it cools down, even more refreshing.

Edible Arrangements review

Brad surprised me with an Edible Arrangements delivery, these are on the pricey side, but they really are a quality product. The strawberries are so fresh and the chocolate is thick and delicious. This also contained chocolate covered apples and a mix of white chocolate covered bananas. These lasted all but 24 hours.

homemade granola recipe

I made homemade granola

  • 6 cups old fashioned oats
  • 1c sliced almonds
  • 1c wheat germ
  • 1/2c flaxseed
  • 1/2c brown sugar
  • 1/2c sunflower seeds (or any nut variety)
  • 1/2c brown sugar
  • 1tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2c shredded coconut flakes
  • 1/2c raisins

(all above ingredients go in a large bowl)

  • heat 1/2c canola oil and 2/3c honey or agave nectar on stove until it becomes liquid, add 1Tbsp of vanilla extract
  • pour mixture over dry ingredients. Spread on a large baking sheet, cook for 10-15 minutes at 325, mix around they cook another 5-8 mins.

It turned out really good, but made WAY more than I expected. This won’t go bad too quickly, so that’s not a bad thing. I would have definitely added some dried fruit if I’d had any on hand. If you have a really good crunchy granola recipe, do share!

blueberry oatmeal protein pancakes recipe

  • 1 banana
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 egg white
  • 1/4 c milk
  • 1 c oats
  • 2 scoops of protein powder (I only have chocolate flavored, but vanilla would be best)
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tbs wheat germ
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tbs canola oil (for the pan)
  • 1/2 c frozen or fresh blueberries

mash banana, vanilla, and egg white in a bowl.
stir in oats, protein powder, baking powder, wheat germ, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Then I heated the oil, poured approx. 1/4c of mixture and flattened out to form pancakes.
Add frozen/fresh blueberries onto each, let cook for a bit then flip (mine cooked way faster than I expected, to be ready)

These were super filling!

Maybelline Color Tattoo in Tough as Taupe Review/Swatch + Bonus Deal at Walgreens!

20 Dec

So I went to Walgreens yesterday to pick up a few things and use some rewards, here is what I ended up with:Walgreens Haul

Revlon Grow Luscious Lash Liner (haven’t tried it out yet)
Neutrogena 3-in-1 concealer for eyes
London SOHO brushes (I’ve used the crease brush and I really like it so far, the bristles are nice, and it was on clearance for $4.99!)
Maybelline Cover Stick Corrector Concealer
Maybelline Super Stay Makeup in Nude & Natural Beige

Maybelline Color Tatto Tough as Taupe Swatch

I was excited to try the Maybelline Color Tattoo that I purchased in Tough as Taupe, you can see above that it is a pretty matte color, and could potentially be hard to wear alone. So I tested it out with some other taupe-like shadows…

First I grabbed my Urban Decay Eye Shadow Insurance Policy Palette:Urban Decay Glamazon with Maybelline Color Tattoo in Tough as Taupe

The left is the Color Tattoo in Tough as Taupe alone, the right is Urban Decay Glamazon alone, and the middle is Glamazon applied over Tough as Taupe. It’s sooooo pretty and vibrant.

So I had to try another, a more matte shade:

Coastal Scents and Maybelline Tough as Taupe

Coastal Scents brown shade & Maybelline Color Tattoo in Tough as Taupe

The right two are the same as above, the far left is a brown shade in my Coastal Scents 88 Color Palette (which I highly recommend) and the next is that same shade over Tough as Taupe. This one wasn’t as exciting, but it showcases how much more vibrant these color tattoo shades can make shadows.

Lastly, I grabbed my Wet n Wild single eyeshadow in Nutty:

Wet n Wild in Nutty and Maybelline Color Tattoo in Tough as Taupe

Left: Wet n Wild in Nutty | Right: Nutty placed over Maybelline Color Tattoo in Tough as Taupe

Again, it made the shimmery shade much more vibrant, and gave it a perfect base.

Overall, Color Tattoo – Tough as Taupe works really well as a base color, much like the MAC paint pots. If only they would make one to dupe MAC Paint Pot in Painterly.

This is definitely a keeper for me, and I’m looking forward to trying some of the other shades. After I swatched these I scrubbed my hands and the color tattoo marks barely budged.

Here is a quick swatch of the Maybelline Cover Stick Corrector Concealer, this is supposed to cover up redness and I approve of the packaging, in an easy-to-use stick. I’ve seen this used in youtube tutorials so I had to give it a shot.Maybelline Cover Stick Corrector Concealer

So after I got home and unloaded my supplies, I found this:

Walgreens Beauty Sample Box

I’d never heard about this, so I’m pretty interested to get this in the mail. Apparently when you make a beauty purchase of $30 or more at Walgreens you’ll receive this voucher with a code to claim your beauty box (until 2/14/13)

My options were Beauty Must Haves, Beauty Cravings, or Radient Skin. I went with Beauty Cravings because it seems to include both hair and makeup products. I’ll definitely be reviewing this when it comes within 4-6 weeks.

Have you tried any of the Maybelline Color Tattoo shades? If not, you should check them out!

Revlon Lip Butters & Super Lustrous Lipgloss Swatches

7 Dec

Well, it’s that time again, when CVS puts a ton of products on clearance and I stock up on things I already don’t need, but just have to have.

I picked up some Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters, Super Lustrous Lipgloss, as well as a few Milani Lipsticks.

Here is a brief review/swatches of what I grabbed:

(flash & no flash)

These lip butters are so moisturizing, and comfortable to wear, but I was only happy with one of the three colors I picked up (raspberry pie). The flash makes the color look much more vibrant than it generally looks, what you see on the right is moreso what you’re working with. As for Strawberry Shortcake, it was too frostyand light for my skintone, and Peach Parfait didn’t look like much of anything (although it looks really nice with a flash) I’d personally rather have something with a little more color payoff.

Milani Lipstick

These lipsticks were pretty moisturizing,

Red Label is a nice vibrant red.

Orange-Gina is going to head back to CVS. The color isn’t bad, but I personally don’t like my lipstick to look shimmery, and the color combination just wasn’t working for me.

Barely There is a good nude color, could be nice used under a gloss to mute out the lips or to apply a lipstick over. A lot of nude lip colors can be drying, and this one definitely isn’t.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss

Peach Petal is a very light pink, almost transparant.

Pink Pop is gorgeous. One of my favorites, this was the main one that I wanted to get my hands on and I’m glad I finally did (even better getting it for $2.25) I’m not sure my late night picture skills really do it justice.

Coral Reef isn’t anything super impressive to me. It was pretty standard of a color, but still gives a nice gloss luster.

Nude Luster is a gloss that I already have, and purchased a back up. It very much nude, basically the color of my lips, but it goes perfectly over lipstick. This one makes my lips look fuller and more plump.

Lilac is very pretty, I don’t wear it often because sometimes I feel like it clashes with whatever I’m wearing on the rest of my face, but it’s definitely a good one and different from the others.

Firecracker is a nice light red, this one also makes your lips look super full and plump, giving them a slight red tint.

Cherries in the Glow is a pretty redish-pink color. It’s pretty close to Firecracker, as you can see.

Overall, I really like these glosses, as mentioned they make your lips look fuller and more plump with a lot of shine, while not being gooey. Some of them are really great colors, while others are quite similar to each other. My personal favorite is Nude Luster and Pink Pop.

Have you tried any of these Revlon or Milani products?

Considering CVS’ clearance, I definitely didn’t make it out of the store with just the things listed above, I added to my nail polish collection as well…

On another note, I went shopping for a dress today..

The gold one was amazing, and would have been perfect for NYE, but overall, the mint dress will be best for the occasion this weekend and I’ll be able to wear it more often. Plus, it was more comfortable.

Anyway, I’m new to this blogging, but I’d love some followers so I can actually interact with people interested in the same type of things. I’d say feel free to ask any questions…

Sigma & Sephora Haul coming soon

6 Dec

I took advantage of the 20% off at Sephora and have finally ordered Sigma brushes, they are as wonderful as everyone has said.

The Tarte Airbrush Finish Bamboo Foundation Brush ($32) is like a miracle worker for liquid foundation, it is pricey, but if you take care of it, it’ll last you a long time (& its cruelty free!) Likely my favorite face brush.
