FOTD with coastal scents, tarte & beautyblender (+ reviews)

19 Mar

I received my mini Sephora order the other day and had to share two of the products..

Sephora haul

The beautyblender sponge ($25 for 2pack)beautyblender review + FOTD

Here is the beautyblender right out of the package (the indent went away) Looks like a normal, basic sponge, right? Why would anyone pay $20 for a sponge? well, I understand why now.

You can use it dry or wet, but its super easy to wet it, run it under water for a second and squeeze it, it’s like magic. It kind of inflates (but isn’t even noticeably wet) You place your liquid foundation spotted around on your face, then just dab/pounce the large end of the beauty blender all around your face. When you wet it, it doesn’t soak up and waste much of your foundation, as most sponges would do.

It applies foundation flawlessly, I understand what the craze with this product is about now.  Additionally, you use the pointy end to bounce in concealer. It shapes perfectly around your eyes/nose/t-zone area. Great product, and I would totally recommend it. I was also skeptical about paying $20 for a sponge, but this is a staple in my makeup, and has amazingly put my tarte airbrush finish foundation brush to the side for awhile.

The other stand-out product I received was the:

Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Brow Mousse ($28)

Amazonian clay waterproof brow mousse -

I have sparse brows, that just won’t grow, so I’ve tried many products to help fill and shape them. So many eyebrow pencils/fillers are just the wrong color, don’t last, or just don’t look natural, but I think I’ve found a great thing in this product.

I order Taupe (a natural blonde color) and it blends nicely, I enjoy the mousse formula, it lasts and helps shape my brows. The brush is really handy because it both combs and has the brush end.

In the photos below I’ve used both the beauty blender & Tarte emphasEYESbeautyblender review & purple eye FOTDAdditional Products:

Sidenote: I don’t do any retouching to these pictures, considering I’m trying to showcase the makeup and how the product works and looks, so there will be imperfections and whatnot.

Have you tried the beautyblender or tarte brow mousse? I recommend them!

11 Mar Strawberry Banana Oatmeal Smoothie & Nike In Season TR

Monday in a nutshell – work | kickboxing | teen mom 2

Monday in depth: I’m in week three of my new graphic design/marketing job and I won the lottery with my boss. I work closely with her and she is pretty awesome, just to show her appreciation she sent me a $50 Sephora gift card this weekend. At lunch today, I decided I have absolutely no control when it comes to bread or pasta. Seriously, I cannot stop eating if you put either in front of me, until the point I can barely move. And that’s a pretty sad thing considering all of this juicing I’ve been trying to do, but I have no idea how to control it.

Anyway, I came home from work and my new shoes had come in..

Nike Women’s In-Season TR 2 Training Shoe. I figured I’d been wearing my Nike Free Run’s so much, that I should invest in another pair. I was looking into Brooks but once I tried these on, and the built in memory foam cushion, I was sold. They’re not the most attractive shoe, but they do what they need to. The tongue is attached to the side of the shoe, so it doesn’t slide all around during exercise. Obviously tonight was the first workout I’ve used them on, but I feel like they will break in nicely and are very light.

Since I ate so much bread and crap today, I decided to give my juicer a break and bust out the Ninja Mega Kitchen again.

Strawberry-Banana-Oatmeal smoothie

  • one carton of fresh/frozen strawberries
  • two very ripe bananas
  • 3/4 cup of old fashioned oats
  • 1 tbsp flaxseed (estimated)
  • 1 tbsp wheat germ (estimated)
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds (estimated)
  • ice cubes if not using frozen fruit
  • almond milk
  • It was a little bland, so I dumped some frozen mixed fruit into it (grapes/peaches/cherries/mango)

So I put in my Sephora order, to use the gift card, and I tried to control myself and not spend higher than $50.00, I purposely didn’t let myself buy anymore basics, like mascara/foundation/lipsticks, so I went with the beautyblender I’ve heard so much about and the Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Brow Mousse. Then I just threw some random sale items into my cart, used a code for a free deluxe sample of Peter Thomas Roth FirmX and the usual three free samples. Can’t wait for it to come in, and I’ll be sure to review them.

Are you familiar with Shopathome.com?

Basically, every time you shop online, you earn a certain percent of cash back, which you will receive in a check. I signed up (free) in November and have gotten a check for $75 so far, which really added up during Christmas shopping. If you do a lot of shopping online, you should probably sign up, it’s completely legit and free (and I can understand while writing this how it could sound like a gimmick)

For example, I bought my shoes at Finish Line and got 6% cash back of my $70 total. With my sephora order I got 8% cash back on my $66 order. Some stores offer 12% cash back, etc, It definitely adds up.

Ps. I would not be promoting this if I hadn’t already received and cashed checks from the company. They are the same kind of program as Ebates.com, but I’ve found ShopatHome.com offers higher cash back and will match 110%. If my explanation was confusing, feel free to ask.

ok, Teen Mom time!

December Beauty (& misc) Favorites

11 Dec urban decay naked palette

I wanted to quickly list the products I’ve been using a lot this season and a brief reason why:

To begin, good brushes are essential and I’ve gone through far too many to come to some I really, really like, and am always on the search for the best. Here are two face brushes I would highly recommend.

Left: Real Techniques expert face brush. This brush can be used for a lot of different things. But I personally like it for creamy makeup or concealer. It’s really versatile
Right: tarte airbrush finish bamboo foundation brush. It was tough for me to shell out the $32, afraid it would end up like all my other brushes but I’m so glad I did. This really does apply the right amount of liquid foundation flawlessly and quickly. No steaks or continuos blending. (sorry, they’re currently dirty)

Next is MAC paint pot in Painterly. I think it’s obvious that I really like this product, and need a new one. I personally use this as a primer most of the time, because it evens out the eyelid as well as keeps eyeshadow in place and vibrant. I find it much easier than using UDPP or the other eyeshadow primers because you get the exact amount of product you want without the mess.

Now the obvious. Urban Decay Naked palette. As much as I want the Naked 2 palette I need to use up some of my other makeup. I will eventually give in soon enough though. This palette has a great variety of colors, mostly being neutral. I’m sure most of you are pretty familiar with this palette. Also, it lasts a long time, you’re getting twelve eyeshadows, and I’ve used this palette a bunch, and there’s still a ton of product left. Plus the packaging is extremely convenient.

I grabbed this stuff at Sally’s on my mission to find the best dry shampoo, I really like it. Some dry shampoos either smell terrible or just don’t work. I find this one to work well, and has a neutral scent. I’m pretty sure it doesn’t always come in a pink bottle (it was breast cancer awareness time when I purchased mine) But it’s quite cheap and does the job.

Maybelline Dreame Matte Mousse is pretty awesome. It’s a creamy mousse and it blends into my skin perfectly. I use this most of the time when I don’t want to use liquid foundation, but still want nice, simple coverage. I use this for my under eye area to brighten up in about 30 seconds. As long as you find the correct color, you’d definitely appreciate having this on hand.

Black waterline liner is an essential for me, and I’m at a toss up between Revlon Luxurious Color and Milani Liquif’Eye, they both are simple to apply, very black, and last for hours. Would recommend both.

Benefit eye bright – Considering I like simple and quick, I really like this pencil to apply quickly to my inner corner for a perfect eye brightening, highlighter.

Blondes, this stuff works! I can’t say how it really is for the health of your hair, but I was AMAZED how it fixed my roots. I’m naturally dirty blonde, and roots can be a pain. I used this shampoo in the shower a few times, as well as spray the Lightening Spray on just my roots or wherever I wanted it to blend. After a few uses, my roots were completely blended. It was a miracle. So I used it a few times and will put it away until my roots start showing again… or maybe I’ll actually go to the salon 😉 The picture connected to this is the best I have of my “roots” after a few uses, this is about 3 months after a coloring.

I just recently purchased this Maybelline Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles and I really like it. As mentioned in my last post, it’s very quick and convenient. You twist the dial and dab a bit under your eyes, then blend with your finger or the expert face brush (above)

I’ve used Loreal Elnett for a long time, but recently found Paul Mitchell Hold me Tight. It smells nice and holds well, but without the gross, sticky, obvious glaze.

Top Shop, I love topshop. I wish there was one near me. I wanted to list “sun shower” in the post, but figured I’d swatch moon shine while I’m at it. This gold pencil is the quickest & creamiest shimmery gold color. It’s easy to blend and looks really nice alone or mixed with other shadows.

Now for the non-beauty products:

Bath & Body Works aromatherapy line trump anything else at B&BW. Eucalyptus Spearmint is a scent like anything else and really relaxing, and Lavender Vanilla is, well, Lavender Vanilla.. amazing.

Bob’s Red Mill Products.. This brand offers a lot of gluten free options, all really healthy and containing a lot of good grains. I’ve tried many things from this brand and everything has been impressive. Here I just mixed Bob’s Red Mill Muesli with milk, strawberries and bananas.

This was the only picture I would find pre-loaded onto my computer of my favorite heart-rate-monitor (bottom right photo) This is the Polar FT7 HRM, I did a ton of research when looking for a HRM and chose this one. I’m very happy with it, and it really motivates me when I’m running or taking classes at the gym to see where my heart rate stands, how many calories I’ve burned, average heart rate, etc. It also keeps a database of everything if you want to track your patterns. (I’m also obsessed with mason jars)

I found this mug at Target this weekend ($7) and took it for a test run tonight. I’m satisfied, my hand fits perfectly in the handle, it’s larger than most, and it’s cute & customized.

Have you tried any of these products, what are your Holy Grail Products?

Sigma & Sephora Haul coming soon

6 Dec

I took advantage of the 20% off at Sephora and have finally ordered Sigma brushes, they are as wonderful as everyone has said.

Hi. #scarves

A post shared by Lindsey Burgess (@burgesslinds) on

The Tarte Airbrush Finish Bamboo Foundation Brush ($32) is like a miracle worker for liquid foundation, it is pricey, but if you take care of it, it’ll last you a long time (& its cruelty free!) Likely my favorite face brush.
