Dr. Scholl’s Active Series Replacement Insoles

29 Oct

Hello! It’s been too long. Working on a computer all day tends to keep me away from my computer on my personal time… Today I have to share about a gift from Influenster.com:

I received the Dr. Scholl’s Active Series Women’s Replacement Insoles from Influenster to test out and share my opinion. After considering purchasing these for quite awhile, something always stopped me, as they aren’t cheap for something you don’t know will be beneficial or not. Insoles always seem like they are a want, rather than a need, but that may be untrue.

I personally placed these in my Nike LunarGlide 5’s, which are relatively new. I removed that insole, which already provides great support. These insoles seemed almost identical to the Nike LunarGlide 5 insole, which is a good thing. I’m interested to try these insoles in other shoes, without so much provided support, and they will make a world of difference in the shoe. While running, doing calisthenics, or running errands, these insoles absorbed the shock, majorly in the heels, but all over.

Overall, I would recommend these to active women. I personally could benefit from a little more arch support, but that’s just due to my high arches.

I’ll be posting soon about MeUndies.com, I’ve had exceptional customer service with them, in addition to a great product. As well, I’ll have a post on Red Carpet Manicure swatches.

Red Carpet Gel Manicure System Review

5 Jun

Hi Guys,

I have completely abandoned my blog while learning what working full-time life and traveling is like. Having a job where my computer is always in front of me makes it hard to switch off from work mode.

Anyway, I finally got an at-home gel/shellac manicure system. I used it for the first time a few days ago, with pretty low expectations…

Red Carpet Manicure Professional LED Light

The lamp itself is super light, small, portable. I followed the directions the best I could, first applying a light swipe of the ‘Prep,’ which just soaked up any excess water/oil whatever could be on your nails, this literally evaporated in a second.

Next, I applied a light swipe of the ‘Structure,’ which was almost a goopy texture, but spread easy enough. I personally chose to paint and place under the lamp my first four fingernails, then both my thumbs, then the other four fingernails, since the lamp is small. So after I applied the ‘Structure’ coat, I placed my nails in the above order under the lamp for 30 seconds each.

Next I applied my color. I have a heavy hand, and have always been guilty of applying way too thick of coats of nail polish in general, that doesn’t fly so well with this system, which I learned. You are supposed to apply a THIN layer, then place your nails under the lamp for 45 seconds, then do a second coat. The few nails that I applied too much onto dried a bit like a mountain on my nail, but it actually smoothed out pretty well. I learned my lesson, though.

Finally, after you’d applied your polish color, you apply the ‘Brilliance’ coat, then place your nails under the lamp for 45 more seconds. Then you’re supposed to use one of their products and take a tissue or wipe and brush it across yours nails. This was scary to me, because they still seemed sticky (which they were, thats what you’re wiping off) but reluctantly I did, and the polish stayed in place! I personally just used a kleenex since I don’t have the formula from Red Carpet and it worked just fine, it just seemed oily at first.

The ladies at Ulta said you don’t necessarily need that formula to remove the stickiness, just use a Non-Acetone Nail Polish Remover.

Red Carpet Its Not a Taupe

So how did it turn out? I love it!!  This color is ‘Its Not a Taupe’ which is a pretty, neutral grey color.

My nails are incredibly brittle, they peel so much and just bend backward, as weak as possible. When I paint my nails with a nail thickener, numerous coats of polish, and a top coat, it will have chipped/peeled off by the next day.

The picture above is a few days after I did the manicure (try to look past my own lack of nail painting skills) and they are so strong and thick and no chipping, which is a feat in itself.

Red Carpet Gel Manicure Review

You can see in this picture on my pointer finger there is the little mountain of polish from me applying too much at once, but I can’t get over how well this works and how much money it’s going to save me.

I will update in a few weeks with how it held up. I’ve seen from other blogs it stays fully for about 2 and a half weeks, which would be unheard of for my sad nails.

Do you have a gel polish system at home? What brand of gel polish do you prefer, I’ll be stocking up.

Muji 5 drawer acrylic case review

25 Apr

Hi Guys,

I’d temporarily abandoned my blogging duties due to a new full time job, traveling to California, and doing a lot of house/dogsitting and various other things.

I’ve been waiting to order the MUJI 5-drawer acrylic cases, and they came in a stock a few days ago, so I ordered them immediately to make sure I snagged at least two.

Muji 5 drawer acrylic case review

These drawers are really pleasing and fit makeup really well. They have a rubber type material on the bottom so they don’t move around and are really easy to stack. Muji 5 drawer acrylic case review

The drawers seem nicely made and it’s awesome to be able to see all of my products, making it way easier to find what I’m looking for, or just browse. Muji 5 drawer acrylic case review

I’m waiting for the two drawer acrylic cases to come in stock, so there will be a part two to this review. The two-drawer cases will fit my larger items. It would be awesome to get all of my makeup into this system.

As for packaging, The drawers come wrapped really well, so you likely don’t have to worry about them breaking or anything. Also, they got to my doorstep in about 3 days of ordering.

On a side note, I’m really enjoying Shellac manicures. I have extremely fragile, weak, thin nails, and this makes them sooo much stronger. This picture was a couple days after I got them done.

I was only home for a limited amount of time, but was overly excited about getting some makeup into the drawers, but once I have more time to organize them more to look more appealing, I’ll update, and tempt everyone to need these drawers as well.

FOTD with coastal scents, tarte & beautyblender (+ reviews)

19 Mar

I received my mini Sephora order the other day and had to share two of the products..

Sephora haul

The beautyblender sponge ($25 for 2pack)beautyblender review + FOTD

Here is the beautyblender right out of the package (the indent went away) Looks like a normal, basic sponge, right? Why would anyone pay $20 for a sponge? well, I understand why now.

You can use it dry or wet, but its super easy to wet it, run it under water for a second and squeeze it, it’s like magic. It kind of inflates (but isn’t even noticeably wet) You place your liquid foundation spotted around on your face, then just dab/pounce the large end of the beauty blender all around your face. When you wet it, it doesn’t soak up and waste much of your foundation, as most sponges would do.

It applies foundation flawlessly, I understand what the craze with this product is about now.  Additionally, you use the pointy end to bounce in concealer. It shapes perfectly around your eyes/nose/t-zone area. Great product, and I would totally recommend it. I was also skeptical about paying $20 for a sponge, but this is a staple in my makeup, and has amazingly put my tarte airbrush finish foundation brush to the side for awhile.

The other stand-out product I received was the:

Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Brow Mousse ($28)

Amazonian clay waterproof brow mousse -

I have sparse brows, that just won’t grow, so I’ve tried many products to help fill and shape them. So many eyebrow pencils/fillers are just the wrong color, don’t last, or just don’t look natural, but I think I’ve found a great thing in this product.

I order Taupe (a natural blonde color) and it blends nicely, I enjoy the mousse formula, it lasts and helps shape my brows. The brush is really handy because it both combs and has the brush end.

In the photos below I’ve used both the beauty blender & Tarte emphasEYESbeautyblender review & purple eye FOTDAdditional Products:

  • Nars Sheet Glow Foundation in Santa Fe
  • Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser

I’m adding these pictures just because I used the beautyblender & tarte amazonian clay waterproof brow mousse, so you can get a better idea of the payoff…coastal scents 88 color palette FOTDCoastal Scents st pattys FOTDCoastal Scents green FOTD

Sidenote: I don’t do any retouching to these pictures, considering I’m trying to showcase the makeup and how the product works and looks, so there will be imperfections and whatnot.

Have you tried the beautyblender or tarte brow mousse? I recommend them!

The Flake: Buxom Amplified Lash Mascara review

18 Mar

Buxom Amplified Lash Mascara by Bare Escentuals…

Buxom Amplified Lash Mascara

Initially I enjoyed this mascara. It added nice volume, length, all things you would enjoy in a mascara. It has a dial, when fully extended the brush gives you extra volume, twist the dial to the wand’s compact position for length, separation, and definition.

None of that matters, though, because the mascara flakes. After a few hours, I’m left with tiny black flakes beneath my eyes, which is not flattering. I gave it a few changes, but always with the same result.

I see a lot of positive reviews and people raving about this mascara, so apparently the flaking doesn’t happen to everyone, or they just deal with it.

I wouldn’t personally recommend this mascara, nor will I purchase it again. I’ve heard the original formula is better, but I can’t say for sure.

This year I think I’m going to get all crazy and try the fake eyelashes. Although, everytime I try to apply them myself I regret doing it, because I can never get them applied right.
